Director Mark O. Hatfield School of Government The Mark. O. Hatfield School of Government (HSOG) invites applications for the position of School Director. HSOG is rated in the top tier of public affairs schools in the nation. Its faculty are dedicated teachers and researchers who contribute knowledge to inform many domains of public policy. HSOG is housed within the College of Urban and Public Affairs, which offers undergraduate and graduate programs in a dynamic environment of cooperation, collaboration and community engagement. The College has longstanding relationships with local, state, regional and federal governments, nonprofit organizations and associations, and international organizations, allowing students to design and implement solutions to modern challenges through hands- on internships and experiential curricula. The Director is responsible for providing intellectual leadership by fostering inquiry and collaboration among interdisciplinary faculty and Center and Institute staff. The Director oversees and coordinates, with the chairs of HSOG's Departments, the Master of Public Policy and PhD in Public Affairs and Policy programs. The Director will typically be responsible for teaching one course per term and also oversees all HSOG Centers' and Institutes' operations, appoints their respective Directors, provides assistance for research and outreach, and facilitates collaborative activities. This is a twelve-month position, with a five-year, renewable term. The ideal candidate for this position will be a senior academic of substantial and widely recognized accomplishments who is committed to interdisciplinary scholarship. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in one of HSOG's disciplines or a related field, and scholarly credentials commensurate with appointment at the rank of Professor. The successful candidate is expected to create a clear, strategic, and compelling vision for how HSOG can grow, expand its impact, and increase extramural funding. A collaborative approach to leadership and management, and skills to foster the development of common goals, teamwork, and partnerships between the Departments, Centers and Institutes is essential. The Director is expected to work productively with a diverse staff, across multiple disciplines and topic areas, and with numerous organizations and constituencies both internal and external to PSU.
